What Will Happen During My Dental Cleaning and Exam?

Posted .

Oftentimes, knowing the steps involved in your treatment can help you feel more relaxed and calm in the dental chair. Therefore, our dental team is happy to explain the steps involved in your six-month checkups so you can feel comfortable in our team’s hands.

First, you’ll receive a dental cleaning and exam. When you are comfortable in our dental chair and you’re ready for your cleaning, your hygienist will deeply clean your teeth with special tools and techniques. They will first start by scraping the surfaces of your teeth to remove the substances that threaten your smile. This technique will remove the plaque and tartar from your smile, which will help you prevent gum disease. Then, they will briefly check your mouth for any signs of trouble. Next, they will floss the crevices of your smile and free any food particles, plaque, and tartar that live between your teeth. Finally, they will polish your chompers with a polishing treatment, which will remove the surface stains off of your smile.

To conclude your appointment, your dentist will examine your smile and assess the health and strength of your teeth and gums. During this examination, Dr. Nicholas Kondon will also inspect your mouth for signs of oral cancer. If he finds any trouble areas or any problems, he will provide the necessary tips or explain your treatment options for repairing your smile.
